You Don’t Always Get What You Want

I think it's true, you can't always get what you want. I believe that as the songs are old, you can still learn a lot about yourself from the lyrics. The old song, “You Can't Always Get What You Want”, by The Rolling Stones, for me, is very special. The song conveys the message that even if you are self-conscious, someone else is worse than you.

I have a tendency to look down on myself and have a few moments of self-pity. I hate it when that happens. I start to get angry, easily upset, not myself. Within a week, everything seemed to go wrong. My aunt and uncle actually kicked me out of the house, my work hours were reduced, my schoolwork was piled high, and my friends harassed me to make them happy. To me, my whole world seemed to collapse. Trying to make myself feel better, I sat down and watched my favorite TV show, which I had just remembered. I was very angry. I felt like God was playing a little game called Up  All yours.

I was sitting there, angry, when the news came. My whole world is back to normal. Terrifying events unfolded before my very eyes on television. The war in Iraq, the famine in Uganda, the killings and kidnappings in America are all examples of what was happening in the world, and I was worried about when my paper would end. Suddenly, my problems seemed insignificant. It really made me realize that I was lucky enough to have my problems as small as theirs. Watching other people live through tragic events such as the one involving the Brazilian Miners, Hurricane Katrina, and the Haiti disaster, has really forced me to focus on the good in my life and to be very grateful for it.

I try to live my life in a way that you can't always get what you want, because it's true. You may not always find what you are looking for, but if you try sometimes, you may not find what you are looking for.
